GRAMICCI, the brand you’ll fall in love with and not want to take off once you put it on. Outdoor apparel with a rich heritage and a unique backstory that stands apart from the rest. Stone Master—just as the name suggests, famous climber Mike Graham made a name for himself as a rock climber at the famous Yosemite National Park during the 70s. Never satisfied with the climbing pants of that time, Graham created and developed the first pair of GRAMICCI pants in his small garage in California, thus establishing the brand as we know it today. With its innovative designs like the gusseted crotch for 180-degree flexibility and movement along with its flex-fit waist band and belt buckle that can be adjusted with just one hand, GRAMICCI became the standard climbing pants. But this raises the question: what was the secret behind the brand’s success? Being an excellent climber alone is not enough to make great outdoor apparel.
The person who helped bring GRAMICCI off the ground had communication with Yvon Chouinard, founder of the outdoor clothing brand Patagonia. As fate would have it, upon meeting Graham and noticing that he worked well with his hands, Chouinard commissioned Graham to make clothing for his own brand. In order to do so, Graham’s garage quickly transformed into a work studio and thus the stage was set for the eventual creation of GRAMICCI. Those who love mountain climbing will notice GRAMICCI’s innovations right away. As you may surmise, the webbing belt is similar to the harness buckle on a backpack. And what was the inspiration behind the gusseted crotch? That would be the legendary martial artist and movie star Bruce Lee who dazzled the silver screen with flying kicks and kung fu fury. Yet this brand is not focused on pure functionality alone. There’s a playful spirit hidden behind the brand’s form and function.
